Hammond Park

Adventure in Hammond Park

Hammond Park stands out in contrast to the vast, red dirt desert around it. Famous as a lush green oasis in the Goldfields, Hammond Park is a public park spanning two hectares of green open space for everyone to enjoy.

With vibrant green lawns, walking paths shaded by tall gum trees, and a calming pond and water area in the middle, it’s a beautiful, relaxed spot, and a welcome escape from the Kalgoorlie heat. A large heritage-listed rotunda provides more shade among the gums. It’s the perfect place to pack a picnic, kick a ball around on the grass, and enjoy the extensive and exciting kid’s playground.

Or just wander the paths, sit under the trees and watch the world go by.

As well as space to enjoy some downtime, it also features some unique attractions. The kids will love this one: inside, you’ll find an animal sanctuary that lets you get up close with peacocks, kangaroos, and emus. There are enclosed aviaries where you can meet an amazing array of bright and colourful native birds.

Another oddity you’ll find is the miniature Bavarian castle. Built in the 1970s by George Kaspar—famous for building other similar models all over Australia—the Hammond Park castle is a scale replica of Bavaria’s Breitenstein Castle. An eye-catching design, it’s said to be adorned with 40,000 gemstones on its façade, and will enchant young and old alike.
